Stacey L. Schwartz, a prominent Center City attorney, died Sept. 20 at the age of 61.

An honors graduate of Temple University and its School of Law, where he earned the distinction of being named a Presidential Scholar to go along with his summa cum laude degree, he was a partner in Schwartz and Blackman, joining his longtime buddy, Phil Blackman, in running the law firm.

Schwartz was named to top lawyers lists numerous times over the years.

He grew up in the Northeast and was a popular local disc jockey at dance clubs and was also known for taking a spin — on his beloved Harley-Davidsons, which he also collected.

Those Harleys, which reportedly filled the family garage, were indicative of a man who was a road warrior and explorer, the last description an especially apt one, says his daughter, Eva J.

In her tribute to him before the throngs attending her father’s memorial service at Congregation Rodeph Shalom, she recalled the “many words used to describe my father, notably among them ‘hero,’ ‘leader’ and ‘cool.’ ”

Once active on behalf of the Golden Slipper Club and Charities’ camp, Schwartz’ communal work extended to membership in the Whitemarsh Planning Board for a number of years. He also served Hahnemann University Hospital as a member of the board of its Likoff Cardiovascular Institute.

Schwartz taught at the Delaware University Law School from 1982 to 1995.

In addition to his daughter, Schwartz is survived by his wife of 40 years, the former Barbara Netter; a son, Wesley J.; and a sister, Shawn Saft.
