The Robert Saligman Middle School of the Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy held its first day of class on Tuesday, officially completing the merger of two Jewish day schools.

Last year, after lengthy negotiations,  officials from Barrack, which also runs a high school, and the Raymond and Ruth Perelman Jewish Day School, which ran the Saligman school, agreed to join the two schools at the Barrack campus in Bryn Mawr. The school at Perelman had been providing Conservative Jewish education for grades 6-8 for 12 years and was led by Susan Friedman. Friedman is now the principal of the new pluralistic school.

On Tuesday, the school held a new student orientation and appointed student ambassadors to help newcomers joining the school.
