Dear Miriam,

Last week, I went to the wedding of my boyfriend's best friend from childhood. Neither my boyfriend nor any of his friends are Jewish. During dinner, one of these friends used an anti-Semitic slur. No one, including my boyfriend, responded or called him out on it in any way. As the only Jew at the table, I didn't say anything either. I'm still angry about the whole incident, but my boyfriend thinks I just need to get over it. What should I do?

Dear Miriam,

I've just been invited to an outdoor engagement party where guests are instructed to dress "summer chic." I have no idea what this means for me or for my boyfriend, plus it's going to be really hot out. Help!

Dear Miriam,

I need an all-purpose Jewish quote for a speech I'm making next week. What are some of your favorites?

Most Quotable Quotes

Dear Quotable,

Here are some favorites, in no particular order, with thanks to my family for contributing to the list:

"We are not obligated to complete the task, neither are we free to desist from it." (Pirke Avot, 2:16)
"If I am not for myself, who will be for me?  And if I am only for myself, what am I?  And if not now, when?" (Pirke Avot, 1:14)...
