One of Israel’s efforts toward making its water usage more efficient and environmentally sustainable came to fruition in 2005 with the construction of the Ashkelon Desalination Plant on the Mediterranean coast. There are now four plants with a fifth scheduled to open later this year at Ashdod.

The third annual Biblical Brew Off was held at Congregation Rodeph Shalom and put Team Jesus from St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church tap to tap with Team Moses of Rodeph Shalom and a new, interfaith team of women from both congregations, Team Eve, to see who could ferment the best brew.

Drexel’s Israel Week, which ends May 12, had campus-wide events mixed with serious educational roundtables at coffee shops with fun activities, including a party with music and food.

“I firmly believe grandparents are the catalyst for wanting their grandchildren to be Jewish,” Marcy Bacine said. That led to the creation of Jewish Learning Venture’s jkidphilly Grandparents’ Celebration, a multi-generational fundraiser that’s designed to foster the next generation of Jewish citizens.

On May 15, Rabbi Steve Gutow will deliver the address at Gratz’s 116th commencement, where students will receive graduate degrees in Jewish education, Jewish studies, Jewish communal service and Holocaust and genocide studies.
