Extra, Extra! Jewish Exponent Wins Awards

The Jewish Exponent has won second place for best overall website as well as 10 other awards from annual state and city journalism competitions.

“Once again, the Exponent has distinguished itself among its peers with journalistic excellence,” said executive editor Lisa Hostein. “We are especially proud of the recognition of our new website,, which is rapidly becoming the ‘go-to’ site for Jewish Phil­adelphia. Our dynamic online operation enables us to reach a wider and younger audience, furthering our mission to educate and engage Jews across the region.”

Unlike the other awards, the website division of the Philadelphia Press Association competition included submissions from both non-daily and daily newspapers across the Philadelphia region.

Here’s a breakdown of the other honors:

From the Philadelphia Press Association in the newspaper writing category:

From the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association:

  • Second place for niche publication
  • Honorable mention for editorial writing by Lisa Hostein 
  • Honorable mention for photo stories by freelance photographer Greg Bezanis 

From the Society of Professional Journalists Keystone Pro Chapter:

  • Third place for website
  • Second place for spot news for coverage of the Main Line kosher butcher shop, by Hostein and Schwartzman 
  • Third place for editorial writing by Hostein
