Events in Support of IDF on November Lineup
Philadelphia will host a pair of events in November in support of the Israel Defense Forces.
On Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m., at Congregation Adath Jeshurun in Elkins Park, Tzvika Levy, a retired IDF lieutenant colonel, will share his story and speak about his efforts to help “lone soldiers,” IDF soldiers who are serving without parents or close family in Israel. Levy has spent more than 25 years acting as a mentor to such young people and thus has become known as the “father of the lone soldiers.” For information, call 215-635-6611.
A few weeks later on Nov. 18, Gabi Ashkenazi, a former IDF chief of staff and retired lieutenant general, will speak at the third annual gala of the Friends of the IDF’s Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey chapter. The event will be held at Vie, an event space on North Broad Street.
FIDF, which raises money to support Israeli soldiers, including lone soldiers, is focusing this year’s gala on remembering the Holocaust and celebrating Israel’s 65 years of independence.
In addition to Ashkenazi, Joseph Gringlas, a Philadelphia resident and survivor of Auschwitz, and his granddaughter, Sara Greenberg, will share Gringlas’ story and talk about the importance of the Jewish state.
To build awareness and honor Holocaust survivors, FIDF donors are covering the cost of admission for any student or survivor who wants to attend.
For information, contact FIDF’s executive director, Tzvia Wexler, at 215-783-4718 or email her at Philadelphia@fidf.org.
