Purim and head shaving
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 12, 2014 is more than just a night for celebrating Purim. Rabbis Phyllis and Michael Sommer have been dealing with personal tragedy and grief. Their 8-year old son, Sam, lost his battle with cancer (acute myeloid leukemia) and passed away this winter. In honor and memory of Sam, more than 80 rabbis and cantors from across the country are trying to make a difference going forward. Maybe we can save one child in the future who is afflicted with this same or similar fate.
So, on Wednesday March 12th Rabbi Eric Goldberg of Shir Ami in Newtown will be having his head shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research. Thanks to all who have already helped him surpass his original goal of $3,600. This wonderful group of rabbis and cantors has raised more than $310,000. To continue adding to that total and helping fund childhood cancer research, go to: http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/661420/2014.
On March 12, join us at John's Barber Shop in Newtown and get your head shaved to honor Sam and support Childhood Cancer Research can do so. What we are asking is simple. The haircuts (which will be a buzz cut, not all the way to the skin) will cost $10 and all funds raised will go to St. Baldricks, the organization rabbis and cantors like Rabbi Goldberg are partnering with for this special cause. Thank you John for donating your time!
Please consider getting your hair cut. It will grow back!
