The 10-year anniversary of the death of iconic Israeli singer/songwriter Naomi Shemer occurs on June 26.

She is the composer of renowned classics such as “Yerushalayim Shel Zahav,” “Lu Yehi,” “Hurshat HaEucalyptus,” and “Al Kol Ele.”

Shemer grew up on Kvutzat Kinneret, a kibbutz along the shores of the Sea of Galilee, and received the Israel prize for Hebrew song in 1983.

In 2004, Shemer died of illness at the age of 74 in Tel Aviv.

Her music, however, lives on at Jewish summer camps, Israeli folk dance groups and synagogues around the world.
