Plain and black bean hummus

There's one thing that's always a staple at my house: hummus. I looooove making it. It is surprisingly easy and only takes a few ingredients.

My friends and family know that any time there is a party, potluck or gathering, my hummus will be there! So naturally, my last suggested appetizer for your Thanksgiving (or any holiday) dinner is....drumroll...HUMMUS! Here’s an original recipe. All you need is your trusted food processor.

Ingredients

Extra virgin olive oil
1 lemon
1 garlic clove
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
2 Tablespoons tahini (can substitute with peanut butter)
Cayenne, turmeric and cumin to taste
2 cans chickpeas

Directions

1) Fill bottom of food processor about an ⅛ inch with olive oil.
2) Add the juice from the lemon, garlic clove, salt, pepper, tahini, plus a pinch of cayenne, turmeric and cumin (less or more depending on your preferred spice level) and mix everything together.
3) Add chickpeas. Depending on the size of your food processor, you may have to add the cans one at a time. Mix until you get a creamy consistency.
4) Taste and add spices as needed.

Serve with drizzled olive oil and a sprinkle of cayenne pepper. Pair with carrots, fresh pita or lentil chips.

Yes, making hummus is that easy! Sometimes, I like to add roasted red peppers or black beans to give it a bit more flavor. Anything is possible. Well, almost anything...
