Federation's Women's Philanthropy initiative recently sponsored two successful programs. Fifty women gathered at Boyd's Center City Philadelphia store on March 12 for an evening of cocktails, conversations and a presentation by Ruth Andrew Ellenson, author of The Modern Jewish Girl's Guide to Guilt.

During the event, chaired by Paula Glazer and Cari Lasdon, each woman was personally thanked for her contribution to Federation and treated to gift bags donated by Govberg Jewelers. The crowd heard an inspiring speech by Shelley Rappaport, director of Federation's Chester and Delaware County regions, who shared her firsthand experience being helped by Federation during her successful treatment for cancer.

On April 3, more than 300 women attended the "Live It Up Gala" at the Hilton Hotel in Philadelphia. Filmmaker and keynote speaker Tiffany Shlain treated guests to a screening of "The Tribe." This critically acclaimed film compares the history of the Jewish people to the creation and assimilation of the Barbie doll. It attempts to address the question: What does it mean to be an American Jew today?

More than $160,000 was raised for Federation's Jewish Community Fund. Federation's Mitzvah Food Project was also enriched by donations of new, unopened personal-care items.

Congratulations to chairpersons Simi Kaplin Baer, Phyllis Finkelstein, Tracy Gordon, Andrea Heffler and Margelle Liss for a very successful event.
