Maestro, some award music, if you please! And, judging by the smiles of the award presenters and participants,
it pleased the city fortissimo to honor the silver-haired
Peter Nero on his decades as the music man of the Philly Pops, which he founded in 1979 and which he will be
departing as its muse and conductor later this year. Councilman James Kenney presents Nero with a resolution for his 34 years of “musical excellence in Philadelphia as well as his musical contributions to the nation.” Of course, the national achievement includes his legendary recording
of the movie theme of “Summer of ’42.”
