Louis Magaziner, an immigrant from Humenne, Austria, became the first Jewish graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's School of Architecture and went on to design many prominent buildings in the Philadelphia area and beyond. Julian Francis Abele, the program's first African American graduate, designed Duke University's campus and worked on numerous local landmarks including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Central Branch of the Free Library.
