The School Funding Crisis

October 25, 2013 6:30 PM
Kol Tzedek invites the community to attend a Shabbat Tikkun focusing on "The School Funding Crisis: Perspectives on the Past, Present, and Future of Philadelphia Schools."

The evening will open with a poluck dinner. Please bring a vegetarian dish to share!

The Philadelphia public school system is in crisis.  As a community committed to justice and fairness, we want to be part part of the solution. For this first Shabbat Tikkun (Shabbat of Healing & Justice) of the year, we will hear from a panel of education and youth activists, to learn their perspectives on the current crisis and to learn more about what we can do to address the funding crisis and seek long-term solutions.

With Ron Whitehorn, activist and leader with the Philadelphia Teachers Union, Claire Galpern, organizer with Youth United for Change, and Reverend Michael Caine, Pastor of Old First UCC and Co-Chair of POWER*'s Education Strategy Team.  We will also hear from a KT parent, debra Kimmelman, about how the cuts are affecting her family and families across the city.

*POWER is Philadelphians Organized to Witness Empower and Rebuild, an organization of which Kol Tzedek is a member.
