The Modern Maccabees Who Created Israel:
The Irgun & Stern Group

Zev Golan is an author and historian living in Jerusalem. One of the world's experts on the pre-State Jewish underground war against the British, his newest book is Stern: The Man and His Gang - the first English biography of poet Abraham Stern and a chronicle of the "Stern Gang." Golan's other books include Free Jerusalem and God, Man and Nietzsche: A Startling Dialogue between Judaism and Modern Philosophers. Golan was the longtime director of the Israel branch of the Institute for Advanced Strategic and Political Studies. Golan's commentary appears regularly in the Jerusalem Post, Ha'aretz and other Israeli publications. In Israel he worked closely with the former leaders and soldiers of the undergrounds of the 1940s. Before his aliya from New York he "hunted" Nazi criminals in the U.S.
