The recent JFRE Breakfast at the SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia provided an opportunity for colleagues (from left) Alan Lasdon, Gary Rubin, David Reibstein and Matthew Steinberg to catch up.

SugarHouse Casino CEO Greg Carlin took the red-eye from corporate headquarters in Chicago to give 150 members and prospective members of Jewish Federation Real Estate (JFRE) the inside story behind the development of Philadelphia's newest Delaware River waterfront entertainment attraction.

Carlin served as the keynote speaker for the Nov. 4 breakfast networking reception, which was sponsored by the JFRE affinity group for men and women involved in the real estate industry and allied trades.

Carlin described SugarHouse as a "very good deal for the City of Philadelphia," explaining that the project will be an excellent source of new tax revenue for the city, and has already created new jobs for area residents. Since the casino opened in September, it has employed 1,000 individuals.

Wendy Hamilton, casino general manager, said that "72 percent of the casino's workforce is from Pennsylvania, 50 percent is from Philadelphia and 20 percent are from the three neighborhoods surrounding the complex."

JFRE chair David J. Adelman was gratified by the strong turn-out for the event and expects membership to continue to show significant growth in the coming months.

He invited both current and prospective members to join the group for Federation's Super Sunday on Jan. 30, for the next JFRE networking event in early February, as well as a major hands-on project participation during Mitzvah Mania in early April.
