SUDE

Paul Julien Sude, 80, of Wynnewood, PA died on March 31, 2014 at Lankenau Hospital. Born in 1933 in Jersey City, New Jersey, the son of the late David and Estre B. Sude. He earned his B.A. from Rutgers University in 1955, and an LL.B from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law in 1958, and an LL.M in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1959. He practiced law in Seattle, Washington, until moving to Washington, D.C. in 1963. He joined the staff of Chief Counsel's Office of the Internal Revenue Service, working in Washington, D.C. and in Philadelphia for 38 years until his retirement in 2001. Since retirement, he volunteered as a teacher of English as a Second Language. Despite his illness, he continued his weekly classes until his final hospitalization on March 1, 2014. Paul was a member of Main Line Reform Temple in Wynnewood, since 1973 where he served on the finance, membership, and adult education committees, and on the Board of Trustees. Since retirement, he was an enthusiastic member of a weekly Torah study session. Paul was particular and passionate about birding, photography, opera, Chinese cooking and in his more active days, hiking, fishing, and obedience training his hapless Golden Retrievers and beloved Shar-Pei. Persistently curious about life's enigmas, Paul searched for wild mushrooms, raised African violets, quibbled over punctuation, and loved learning unusual words.Paul is survived by his wife, Kay Barenkopf Sude, his daughters, Leslie Elin Sude (Paul P. Wang) and Laurie Jean Sude (Donald W. Buckley); four granddaughters, Clara, Olivia, Ruby, and Tillie,  whom he called his “cherry blossoms” in reference to the A. E. Housman poem he often read to them entitled “Loveliest of Trees.” A memorial service was held Sunday, April 6 at Main Line Reform Synagogue, Wynnewood, PA 19096. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to: Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, 2100 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.https://www.jewishphilly.org/ways-to-give/tribute-cards
