Paige Horbaker and Alyssa Bryan, 9th-grade students at Gwynedd Mercy Academy, were recognized for their prize-winning sculpture, "Close Enough to Touch, But Not Brave Enough to Reach."

The winners of the 38th Annual Mordechai Anielewicz Creative Arts Competition were recognized for their distinctive expressions of two- and three-dimensional art, poetry, prose, music, multi-media and dance during a recent reception at the Moore College of Art and Design.

More than 400 7-12th-grade students from public, private and parochial schools throughout the Greater Philadelphia area participated in the competition, which honors the memory of Mordechai Anielewicz, a young leader of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

The competition is sponsored annually by the Memorial Committee for the Six Million Jewish Martyrs of the Jewish Community Relations Council, the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, in cooperation with numerous other community organizations and foundations.
