Special Shabbat Sermon: Jews & Comedy in America

July 26, 2013 8:00 PM

From “Sarah laughed” in the Torah to Purim-Shpiels to Borscht Belt comedians, the
Jewish people have had a rich tradition of humor and comedy. Join us for a hysterical look at the history of Jewish comedy (that’s no joke!) spiced with wonderful video clips of Fannie Brice, Henny Youngman, Mickey Katz, Myron Cohen, Jackie Mason and the rest of the gang. Learn why Jewish comedy was so successful in America that “shtick” became an English word. Lecture by Rabbi Lance J. Sussman with a special power point presentation by Joan Myerson Shrager. Followed by a special Oneg Shabbat.
