SIDENBERG

April 8, 1913 - June 14, 2013

Reba Varbalow Sidenberg was born April 8, 1913 in Hamonton, NJ.  She was the daughter of Harry and Jenny Varbalow.  She graduated from high school in Atlantic City, NJ.  She attended college at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA and graduated with a degree in education.  After graduation, she taught elementary school for five years in NJ.  In 1940, she married Sam Sidenberg, owner-manager of B&S Department Store and Vice President of the Wake Forest Saving and Loan, and moved to Wake Forest, NC.  Reba lived and worked by her husband's side in their store in Wake Forest.  Her husband preceded her in death in 1988.  In 1990, she moved to the Quadrangle in Haverford, PA to be with two of her sisters, Ida and   Estelle.  She lived the remainder of her life there. Reba  was a fast and avid reader. She read a book a day from an early age until she passed away at age 100.  It was hard to find a book card in the Quadrangle library that didn't have her name on it.  Another love of Reba's was gardening.  In Wake Forest, she once won the yard of the month award.  She made beautiful flower arrangements with her flowers, and she kept fresh flowers from her garden in our home.  The driveway to her Wake Forest home was lined with her rare irises.  When she moved to the Quadrangle she was on the landscaping committee, and she grew beautiful flowers on her porch.  She shared her flowers and vegetables that she grew with her friends.  Where ever she was, she beautified her spot in the world.  Reba believed in giving to charities, and throughout her life she gave too many regularly.  She also loved reciting poetry, and would amaze many with her recitations that were always relevant to the situation.  Some of the other interests and activities during her life included being a girl scout leader,  ac charter member of the Wake Forest Eastern Star, a past member of Temple Beth Or in Raleigh, a Sunday School teacher, a lifetime member of Hadassah, and member of book, investment, and bridge clubs, and other community groups. Reba was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  The memory of her inner strength , intelligence, generosity, kindness, and devotion to her Jewish faith will remain in the mind and hearts of her daughters Susan and Harrie, her grandchildren Debbie, Jenny, and Sam, and her great grandchildren Aleigh, Gracie, Caine, Nikki, Gabbie, and Chloe. Family will receive friends at 2:00 pm at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh NC  27609
