Marc H. Shames died of Pancreatic Cancer, at home, on Wednesday, March 20 at 1:45AM in the morning, surrounded by his family. He spent 61 years living in Broomall, graduating, along with his wife of 38 years Dianne (nee Belitsky), from Marple Newtown Senior High. He then graduated, in 1974, from Drexel University with a degree in Business Administration.
Marc was a Boy Scout Leader, a member of the Board of Martins Run, past President of Beth El-Ner Tamid Synagogue, and a past recipient of Brith Sholom's Wolfe Baron Lodge, Man of the Year. The Jewish National Fund honored both him and his wife Dianne with the planting of a Woods. Marc was an avid runner, participating in 7 half Marathons as well as dozens of runs; running 3 miles every day before going to the gym and working out in the morning and swimming laps in the pool at the end of each day. Rain, sun, snow, sleet, vacation...Marc ran.
He loved to work in his gardens, go fishing with his sons, and watch marathon TV with his daughter, bike ride down the shore on the boardwalk, and doing anything with his family. He is survived by his wife Dianne, children Adam and wife Laura, son Jonathan and daughter Amanda, as well as two grandchildren, Olivia and Alexander Shames. Also survived by his sister, Joan Shames. Son of the late Helen and Irving Shames. Son-in-law of Shirley and the late Albert Belitsky. Funeral services were held at Congregation Beth El-Ner Tamid, Broomall, PA. Interment Haym Salomon Memorial Park. Contributions in his memory may be made to The Shames Scholarship Fund, C/O Beth El-Ner Tamid.
Marc brought a sweet, quiet dignity to this world that is not often found.
