Selichot: A Spiritual Warm-up for the High Holy Days

Selichot is an overture to the High Holy Days, and introduces us to the melodies and themes that suffuse the season. It is the portal to our sacred period of introspection and reflection. Hush of Midnight melds contemporary music with ancient chant, and traditional Selihot prayers with the lofty poetry of the late Ruth Brin. Minhah and Ma'ariv: 7:30 PM; Social Gathering: 8:30 PM; Havdalah, marking the conclusion of Shabbat, followed by an introduction to Hush of Midnight featuring composer Hazzan Charles S. Davidson, Hazzan Emeritus of Congregation Adath Jeshurun: 9:00 PM; Hush of Midnight led by Hazzan Howard K. Glantz, accompanied by the assembled congregations, with the Adath Jeshurun Choir, Women’s Ensemble, Men’s Association Ensemble, Dr. William J. Gatens on the keyboard,  Ken Miller on drums, and the Ken Ulansey Ensemble: 9:30 PM. A Joint Program Congregation Adath Jeshurun, Beth Sholom Congregation, Congregation Beth Tikvah B’nai Jeshurun, Melrose B’nai Israel Emanu-El, Old York Road Temple – Beth Am, Temple Sinai, and Tiferet Bet Israel.
