Philadelphia native Jonathan Sarna, chief historian for the National Museum of American Jewish History as well as a prominent professor at Brandeis University, is the new president of the Association for Jewish Studies.

He is the fourth Brandeis professor to assume the organization's top post — including his father, Nahum.

The Joseph H. & Belle R. Braun Professor of American Jewish History at Brandeis University, Sarna is recognized as one of the foremost historians of American Jewish communal life. Five years ago, the much-published author was voted in as a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
