Ross Marc Abrams

Ross Marc Abrams, 44, a certified public accountant and chief financial officer, died Feb. 4 at his home in Brookline, Mass.

Abrams graduated from Wyncote Elementary, Cedarbrook Middle School and Cheltenham High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Vermont in Burlington with departmental honors in economics, and was a Rhodes Scholar Finalist in 1986.

He joined Laventhol and Horwath in Boston in 1986 as a CPA upon graduation from college. In 1990 he became a senior CPA at the firm of Schneider and Schneider in Braintree, Mass.

In 1992, Abrams became the CFO of Cross Industry Marketing in Boston. He was in charge of all financial and telecommunication aspects of the company.

In 1996, Abrams became treasurer and CFO of Economy Plumbing and Heating Supply in Philadelphia, a family business, and worked with his father and brothers, Brad and J.D.

He negotiated the sale of Economy Plumbing and Heating Supply in 2005 to Ferguson Enterprises of Virginia Beach, Va. In 2007, he became the CFO of Karmaloop LLC, a Boston Internet company.

He was a champion tennis player, a skier, sailor, bicyclist and computer specialist.

Abrams is survived by his parents, Beth (Freeman) and George Abrams; daughter Lily Abrams; brothers Brad Abrams and J.D. Abrams; and two nieces and two nephews.
