Robert Kardon, 85, retired CEO of Kardon Industries, Inc., died March 23 in New York. He was a resident of New York City and formerly of Philadelphia.

Kardon was former chairman of the board of the B.T. Babbit Company, Inc.; Pittsburgh Mortgage Corporation; Murphree Mortgage Company, Nashville, Tenn.; Kardon Investment Company Peoples Bond & Mortgage, Philadelphia; and chairman of the board and vice president of the United Container Company.

He studied at the University of Miami in Florida, as well as at Shriveham American University in Swindon, England, and served with the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946.

Kardon was also a former trustee of the Philadelphia Museum of Art; board member of the Merion Park Civic Association and the Hilltop School in Ithan, Pa.; and a member of the Young Presidents Organization and World Business Council.

Besides his multiple business activities, he was an art collector, architecture connoisseur, music lover, gourmet, world traveler, tennis player, ocean swimmer and a pilot.

Kardon is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet Stolker Kardon; daughter Nina Baran; sons Leroy Kardon and Ross Kardon; and four grandchildren. He was the son of the late Sophie (Winkleman) and Morris Kardon, and brother of the late Eugene Kardon and Lester Kardon.
