RATNER

Kathryn Ratner (Hattie), also dearly known as "Pidge," 67, of Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, passed away Thursday, April 24, in her family home of 65 years with her three daughters at her bedside. Ms. Ratner grew up in Bala Cynwyd where she attended Harriton High School. From the University of Pennsylvania, Ms. Ratner earned her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 1969 and her Master’s degree in Social Work in 1971. As a licensed Social Worker, Ms. Ratner pursued her passion in the field of mental health for over forty years. She began her career at the psychiatric unit of Penn’s Graduate Hospital of Philadelphia, where she was also the family therapist for the Eating Disorders Unit. Her time spent at UPENN collegiately and professionally gave her great joy, memories and lifelong friendships. Ms. Ratner went on to practice as a Psychotherapist throughout the Main Line. She was a board member of the American Anorexia and Bulimia Association of Philadelphia, as well as a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Clinical Social Work, and the National Association of Social Work. Ms. Ratner enjoyed presenting workshops to professionals, students and the interested public on eating disorders.

Ms. Ratner was a model of perseverance, fortitude and independence. She was a self-pursued, single mother, as once quoted, “husbands come and go, but children are forever,’ after which she embarked on her journey into single motherhood with great joy and skill. She will additionally be remembered for her exceptionally warm heart, talented cooking, and love of food, gardening, poodles, the beach, history and literature. Ms. Ratner is survived by daughters Rachel, Jessica and Emma Ratner. Services were private.  Donations in Ms. Ratner’s memory may be made to Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, 2100 Arch St., Philadelphia, PA 19103.
