Sheryl and Art Kuperstein of Langhorne announce the engagement of their daughter, Michelle Ilana Gawerc, to Sha-chak Pe'eri, son of Yigal and Rivka Pe'eri of Swampscott, Mass., formerly of Kfar Saba, Israel. Michelle is the daughter of the late Frank Jefim Gawerc.
Michelle graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in prejudice and intercultural communication from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She earned a Master of Arts degree in international peace studies from the University of Notre Dame; a Master of Social Work degree at Boston College; and recently was awarded a Ph.D. in sociology at Boston College. Michelle recently completed a Graduate Research Fellowship at Harvard Law School's Program on Negotiation.
Shachak holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Master of Science degree and a Ph.D. from Tel Aviv University in geophysics. His Ph.D. research was done in conjunction with Stanford University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Shachak is an assistant research professor at the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping at the University of New Hampshire.
Michelle is the granddaughter of Sylvia Straus, and the late Frances and Bernard Straus; and Bronia Gawerc and the late Yona Gawerc.
The couple is planning a fall wedding.
