Barbie Zelizer, the Raymond Williams Professor of Communication and director of the Scholars Program in Culture and Communication at Penn’s Annenberg School for Communication, is heading up the 2013 SummerCulture trip to Dublin, now in progress, for a group of the school’s doctoral students. The prof also recently lectured on “Tools for the Future of Journalism” at the University of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England.

Tracey Weiss, assistant professor of Strategic Communication at the Temple U. School of Communications and Theater’s Department of Journalism, was honored with the department’s Senior Teaching Award. Penelope Sue Greenberg of Widener University has been named to the position of associate provost of graduate studies and was chosen as associate dean in the university’s School of Business.
Natalie B. Dohrmann and Annette Yoshiko Reed served as editors of the recently published Jews, Christians and the Roman Empire: The Poetics of Power in Late Antiquity. Dohrmann serves as associate director of the Herbert D. Katz Center for Advanced Jewish Studies at Penn as well as exec editor of the Jewish Quarterly Review; Reed is the M. Mark and Esther Watkins Assistant Professor of the Humanities at the U of P’s Department of Religious Studies.
Native Philadelphian and Penn Law School grad and honoree, Mark Yudof has stepped down as president of the University of California, a post he had held since 2008. He will be a fixture on the school’s Berkeley campus come the fall, where he intends to teach law.
Michael C. Horowitz of the U of P’s School of Arts & Sciences, where he serves as an associate prof of poli-sci, has landed the Furniss Book Award, presented by the Mershon Center for International Security Studies. Earning the Penn prof the honor: his The Diffusion of Military Power: Causes and Consequences for International Politics.
