Pulitzer Prize-winning author Buzz Bissinger and philanthropists Robert and Esther “Penny” Fox were accorded honorary degrees from the LeBow College of Business
at Drexel University’s recent 126th Commencement.
Dr. Sheldon Bernick, who has volunteered his services as a pediatric dentist for 15 years at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, was honored with the Manuel M. Album Award for excellence and dedication to serving children with special needs by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Wynnewood’s Dr. Rachel B. Sobel has been appointed to a faculty post for the Summer Training Institute of the Independent Educational Consultants Association. Her position will run the week of July 23 at Swarthmore College.
Chair and immediate past president of the American Technion Society’s Philadelphia Chapter, Jeffrey Cosiol of Margate City, N.J., was a co-leader of the recent ATS Expedition to Spain and Israel. Cosiol serves ATS in its highest designated role for supporters, that

Hazzans Eliot Ira Vogel of Har Zion Temple and Mark Kushner, both members of the Cantors Assembly, received honorary doctorates at convocation ceremonies held recently by the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York.
General manager of the Sixers in 1996, Brad Greenberg just completed a sensational season as coach of the Maccabi Haifa club in Israel, taking the nation’s championship after defeating favored Maccabi Tel Aviv in the title game. Greenberg, who drafted Allen Iverson while with the Sixers, and who was involved years later in an NCAA draft scandal that ultimately ended his college coaching career, will coach Israel’s national basketball team in this summer’s Maccabiah Games.
Dr. Amy Fuchs and Dr. Steven Rosenzweig were honored by the Drexel University College of Medicine during its 18th annual Golden Apple Teaching Awards Ceremony. The two were cited by the class of 2013 for their outstanding service to the student body.
James R. Kahn, a partner at Margolis Edelstein, has been elected board chair of the Association of Jewish Family & Children’s Agencies. Involved with the agency in varied capacities for over 25 years, Kahn was voted in at AJFCA’s annual conference held recently in Phoenix.
The LundyLaw Foundation, whose president is Judy Lundy, has teamed with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in forming the LundyLaw Library Express, which will bring donated books to CHOP patients’ bedsides. The mobile library is dedicated to the memory of Marvin Lundy, the late chairman of the law firm.
After serving seven years as head of the U of P’s Jewish Studies Program, Beth S. Wenger will be leaving the role this summer, going on sabatical. Taking on the position will be Talya Fishman.

Amy F. Sichel, superintendent of the Abington School District since 2001 and the 2010 Pennsylvania Superintendent of the Year, has begun serving, as of July 1, in her added role as president of the American Association of School Administrators.
