Lions of Judah are the very generous women who contribute at least $5,000 to the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s Jewish Community Fund. On the evening of May 20, 2013, Federation’s Women’s Philanthropy had the opportunity to honor these philanthropic women at a Lion of Judah event at the home of Sara and Jay Minkoff in Wynnewood.
Making the evening even more special was the fact that, for just the second time, Lions of Judah were invited to bring their spouses or significant others to celebrate their passion and philanthropy.
Approximately 120 people attended, enjoying dinner, drinks and inspirational talks. Women’s Philanthropy President Susan Schwartz welcomed the group. Bernie Dishler, one of the evening’s co-chairs, spoke about the importance of men getting involved in the Jewish community and in Federation.
Guest speaker Michael Brooks, director of Institutional Advancement of Hillel at the University of Michigan, discussed inspiring children and grandchildren to become active Jewish adults and leaders. According to Marni Davis, director of Women’s Philanthropy, both new and longtime Lions enjoyed the evening together, “forging even deeper connections to one another and to their amazing philanthropy.”
