"The list is an absolute good. The list is life."

Those words were uttered by Ben Kingsley as he portrayed the real-life Itzhak Stern in the 1993 film, Schindler's List. And now, the list is for sale. As first reported in The New York PostCalifornia collectors Gary Zimet and Eric Gazin have listed what they claim is one of the original Schindler's Lists — certified authentic by Stern's nephew, Nathan Stern — on eBay

The 14-page document, containing 801 male names typed onto onionskin paper, is dated April 18, 1945. It was used by German businessman Oskar Schindler to save over 1,000 Jews from certain death at the hands of the Nazis by claiming that they were essential employees at his factories in Kraków and Brünnlitz.

The copy offered at auction was originally in the hands of Itzhak Stern, He gave it to his nephew, who subsequently sold it to the anonymous collector who is now selling it through Zimet and Gazin's company, the Los Angeles-based AuctionCause.

As one of only four known copies extant — including those at Yad Vashem and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, owning this piece of history won't come cheap: the starting bid for the 10-day auction is $3 million.
