While there is good reason to be concerned about the participation of West in any policy development for the Democratic Party, the real issue is whether anything done by the platform committee actually matters and whether the policy positions articulated in the party platform make any difference.

The conduct of secret, sensitive diplomacy involving national security issues is nothing new. Indeed, in many cases absolute secrecy is necessary for any number of valid reasons. But secrecy is one thing. Intentionally lying to the public is another. And there is no excuse for the latter.
