Mildred Magil, 96, of Germantown Jewish Centre

Mildred magil, who participated in charitable events and served as a leader of the Jewish community, died Oct. 21. She was 96.
A founding member of the Germantown Jewish Centre along with her late husband, Leon H. Magil, the couple dedicated the chapel there in memory of Leon’s mother, Rose Magil.
Mildred also was president of the Women’s Club at the synagogue and served on its board of directors.
She had served as chairman of the then Federation Allied Jewish Appeal’s Women’s Division and was president of Philadelphia Women’s Division/
American Society for Technion, receiving the organization’s Award of Merit.
In her capacity as chairman and national board member, Magil was honored by the Israel Bonds Women’s Division with its Woman of Valor Award and Tower of David Award.
She had served as president of the Akiba Hebrew Academy PTA and served on their board of directors; she also was president of the American Friends of Hebrew University Women’s Division and was a member of B’nai B’rith and Women’s American ORT.
Magil was a life member of Hadassah and Dropsie Women.
The former Mildred Goldman, she is survived by daughters Ronnie Magil Allen and Nina Magil Hausner; a granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters.
Memorial donations can be sent to the American Society for Technion, Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, Germantown Jewish Centre, the Alzheimer’s Disease Association or the donor’s choice.
