Neta Burshstein has recently arrived in Philadelphia from Jerusalem to help strengthen Jewish identity and connection to Israel throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s Center for Israel and Overseas welcomes Burshstein as the community’s new shlichah, the Hebrew word for emissary.

“Neta brings the face of Israel to our community through Israeli spirit, culture and current events. She is a ‘living bridge’ between Philly and Israel,” says Jeri Zimmerman, director of Federation’s Center for Israel and Overseas. Zimmerman says that Burshstein will offer a variety of programs for synagogues, schools, senior centers and other community organizations. She will tailor her workshops and speaking engagements to meet the needs and interests of all age groups — from elementary school students to older adults. She also will serve as director of the Israeli Scouts’ Philadelphia Chapter.

Burshstein is also available to assist with pre- and post-Israel travel programming. She can help congregations and other Jewish communal organizations to enhance the experience for all participants.

Burshstein recently completed her B.A. in political science and Asia studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and has interned with the Office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

After completing her service in the IDF, she worked at a Jewish summer camp near Boston for three summers as an Israeli culture leader. In 2009, she was a social counselor for Jewish American teens at the Alexander Muss High School program in Israel.

To book a program or speaking engagement for your organization, call Burshstein at 215-832-0847 or email: shaliach@jfgp.org.
