David Verbitsky and Vera Verbitsky of Edison, N.J., and Barry and Ellen Savitz of Penn Valley announce the engagement of their children, Natalya Verbitsky and Scott Savitz.

    Natalya earned a Ph.D. in statistics from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, as well as a bachelor's degree with highest honors from Rutgers University. Previously a visiting scholar at the University of Chicago, Natalya is a statistician at Mathematica Policy Research, Inc., in Washington, D.C.

    Scott earned a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and holds an undergraduate degree from Yale University. He was the valedictorian of the 249th class of Philadelphia's Central High School. After working for the Center for Naval Analyses for the last eight years (two of them in the Persian Gulf), Scott is employed by the Homeland Security Institute.

    Sharing in their joy are Natalya's grandmother Polina Prudnikova, along with the couple's siblings, Jodi Savitz and Michael Verbitsky.

    Natalya is the granddaughter of the late Elena and Emil Verbitsky, and the late Jacob Poplavsky. Scott is the grandson of the late Percy and Sara Savitz, and the late Nate and Miriam Kaplan.

    The couple is planning a March wedding.
