Deborah Caputo Rosen and David Mayer, and Theodore and Toni Rosen of Bryn Mawr announce the engagement of their daughter, Dr. Alyssa Rachel Rosen, to Dr. Maximillian Hall Shmidheiser, son of Dana "Taffy" Mandel of Elkins Park and George Shmidheiser of Devon.

    Alyssa is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in biopsychology and cognitive science with high honors. She earned a medical degree from the Harvard Medical School, where she was the first medical student to graduate from a special training program in spiritual caregiving for health-care providers. Alyssa is currently a resident in pediatrics/pediatric neurology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

    Max graduated with high honors from the Guilford College in North Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. He also graduated from Widener University with a doctoral degree in clinical psychology with a concentration in neuropsychology. A recipient of the Neubauer Family Scholarship involving designing an intervention program for at-risk youth through martial arts training, Max is currently completing a neuropsychology post-doctoral fellowship in the Harvard Health System.

    Alyssa is a granddaughter of retired Army Lt. Col. Edward and Carolyn Caputo, and the late Jack S. Rosen and Evelyn Ellis Rosen. Max is a grandson of Gilda Mandel, the late Dr. Benjamin Mandel, and William Entenmann Shmidheiser II and the late Nancy Harscheid Shmidheiser.

    The couple is planning a spring 2011 wedding in Philadelphia.
