Jerry and Barbara (nee Kaiser) Kaplan of Philadelphia will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on Sept. 6.
Barbara, a painter and a knitter, and Jerry, a fisherman and an Al Jolson fan, met at a synagogue dance and later wed at the Shelron in Philadelphia.
The couple, who lived in the Somerton section of Philadelphia, opened Town Sandwich and Coffee Shop — a luncheonette in Center City — after the birth of their daughter, Wendi. Together they worked behind the counter — Jerry making sandwiches and Barbara at the register.
After the closing of the store 10 years later, the couple moved into more conventional occupations — Barbara worked in customer service, and Jerry became an outside sales rep.
Their family has grown to include son-in-law Jaret Lyons and grandson Brandon.
The couple, who lives in the Bakers Bay Condominium in Philadelphia, are members of Ohev Shalom of Bucks County in Richboro, where they will be honored on Sept. 4.
