Ben Brown of Northeast Philadelphia celebrated his 100th birthday at a luncheon in his honor on June 28 surrounded by his family. Among those present to help him into his next century were his daughters, Barbara Schaeffer and Susan Dorval. Also on hand were eight of his nine grandchildren. Brown had a speech written ahead of time, which he read to the family.
On July 27, Brown will again celebrate with extended family and friends at his residence.
Always a sportsman, Brown played minor league baseball as a youth, and played golf and bowled during much of his lifetime. He walked weekly in Center City to take care of business and to just enjoy the city.
Somewhat slowed down these days, Brown watches sports and reads the paper from cover to cover and can discuss most topics, including the stock market.
