Beth and Bruce Appelbaum of Huntingdon Valley and State College, Pa., announce the engagement of their daughter, Lauren Ilene, to Jonathan Adam Fusfield, son of Beverly and Michael Fusfield of Cherry Hill, N.J.

    Lauren graduated cum laude earning a master's degree in broadcast journalism from Syracuse University. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University in urban studies and political science, graduating cum laude, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree from List College of the Jewish Theological Seminary in Midrash, graduating magna cum laude. Lauren serves as the media and special-projects coordinator for the Washington, D.C. office of the Israel Project.

    Jonathan graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. He is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. In August, he will begin studies for a Master of Business Administration degree at George Washington University. Jonathan is a senior editor for the McClatchy-Tribune Regional News Service in Washington, D.C.

    Lauren is the granddaughter of Dorothy Novess of Huntingdon Valley; Corinne and Morton Appelbaum of Philadelphia; the late Philip Rosenau of Elkins Park; and the late Jack Novess of Elkins Park. Jonathan is the grandson of Evelyn Fusfield of Cherry Hill, N.J.; the late Ira Fusfield of Cherry Hill, N.J.; the late Max Smith of New York; and the late Grace Smith of Highland Park, Ill.

    Sharing in their happiness are their siblings, Edward, Brian, Matthew and Elisabeth.

    The couple, who lives in Washington, D.C., is planning a wedding this month in Huntingdon Valley.
