Karen and Jay Bycer of Paradise Valley, Ariz., formerly of Philadelphia; along with Mindy and Mayer Amsel of Brooklyn, N.Y., announce the engagement of their children, Matthew L. Bycer of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Elly (Elisheva) Amsel of Brooklyn. Mayer Amsel is originally from Montreal.

    Matthew, a graduate of Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in physics and economics from Brown University in Providence, R.I. He graduated with a combined MBA/J.D. degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Ariz. Matthew is an intellectual property attorney in Phoenix at the law firm of Cahill Glazer, PLC.

    Elly is a graduate of the Shulamith School for Girls in Brooklyn. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business, management and finance from Brooklyn College, the City University of New York; and a Juris Doctorate from the Fordham University School of Law in New York. Elly is a corporate and securities attorney at Garsten Savage LLP in Manhattan.

    Joining in wishing the couple mazel tov are Elly's sister and brother-in-law, Dena and Yehuda Kranzler, along with nephew Kivi of Teaneck, N.J.; her sister Avigail Amsel; and her brother Aryeh Amsel of Brooklyn; along with Matthew's brother, Eric J. Bycer of Washington, D.C.

    Matthew is the grandson of the late Dr. Abe and Belle F. Guberman of Philadelphia and Phoenix, and the late Minnie and William Bycer of Philadelphia and North Miami Beach, Fla. Elly is the granddaughter of Elaine and Louis Palgon of Brooklyn, and the late Cecelia and Leibish Amsel of Montreal.
