Marlene Zarwin, 78, a prominent figure in Jewish communal causes, died Feb. 19.

She lived in Bala Cynwyd.

The former Marlene Isaacson, she devoted much time and effort over the years to the Henrietta Szold Group of Hadassah, where she was a past president.

Her devotion also was considerable when it came to the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s Women’s Philanthropy affinity. She was a significant contributor, donating at the Lion of Judah level.

Zarwin also belonged to Women of Vision, which is the Federation’s permanent Jewish women’s foundation.

Indeed, she and her husband, Norman, a founder of the law firm of Zarwin Baum DeVito Kaplan Schaer Toddy, P.C., are members of Federation’s Legacy Society.

“Marlene was a true woman of valor — a person who gave generously of her time and resources to our Federation, to Hadassah, and to other Jewish communal organizations, ensuring the viability of our local and global Jewish community for generations to come,” noted Federation President Sherrie Savett.

In addition to her husband, Zarwin is survived by two daughters, Amy Steinberg and Deborah Rose; a son, Stephen; a brother, Michael Isaacson; and eight grandchildren.
