Local liberator Don Greenbaum (seated, center) speaks with student participants of the March of the Living in the old Jewish section of Krakow, known as Kazimierz, where much of "Schindler's List" was filmed.

The March of the Living celebrated its 25th anniversary last week with its traditional march from Auschwitz I to Birkenau on Yom Hashoah. Ten thousand high school students from 35 countries were involved, but to mark the special anniversary this time, survivors and liberators from around the world were also invited to participate. Don Greenbaum, 86, of Bala Cynwyd, who as a young American soldier helped liberate Dachau, participated in the event near Krakow, Poland, calling it "a very emotional journey. Meeting with youth from all over the world, answering their many questions and witnessing their interest was overwhelming. And spending time with other liberators and survivors and hearing their stories was heart-rending."
