Laura Lipsius Romm, 89, Longtime Jewish Volunteer

Laura Lipsius Romm, 89, a volunteer who was active in Jewish causes, died July 14 at Saunders House in Wynnewood. She was a longtime resident of Overbrook Farms.

Romm graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1936. She served as congregational vice president and president of the Sisterhood at Beth T'fillah, now Temple Adath Israel in Merion. She helped prepare kiddush after Sabbath and holiday services.

A lifetime member of Hadassah, she was also vice president of the Philadelphia Chapter of Parents of North American Israelis and served as chairwoman of the Torah fund for the Jewish Theological Seminary.

She married Albert Romm in 1943, and they were active in Zionist youth groups before the establishment of the State of Israel. Over the years, she and her husband were honored by the Jewish National Fund, the Jewish Theological Seminary and the Overbrook Park Civic Association.

Romm was known for creating beautiful embroidery on religious objects and linens. She was also a Cub Scout den mother.

In addition to her husband, Romm is survived by sons J. Leonard Romm and Edward Romm; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
