Hungry for Hummus? Try This!

What's new on the market in the new year?

Tribe, the maker of hummus, is introducing four organic flavors for retail sale in 8-oz. containers: Classic, Roasted Garlic, Sweet Red Pepper and Cracked Chili Peppers. In conjunction, Tribe is introducing the industry's first organic hummus party trays in six different flavors.

The organic hummus is USDA- and kosher-certified, and has an 80-day shelf life from the date of production.

Never eaten hummus before? It's healthy and versatile.

Try these concoctions:

Tuna-Hummus Sandwich -- Mix 1 can of tuna (drained) with 2 tablespoons of Roasted Red-Pepper Hummus. Spread on whole-wheat bread, and add lettuce, tomatoes and pickles.

Carrot-Hummus Pita Pizza -- Spread Roasted-Garlic Hummus on one side of a pita loaf. Top with shredded carrot. Bake in a pan in a 400° oven until pita is crispy and hummus starts to brown.

Caesar Salad -- Add 2 tablespoons lemon juice and 1 teaspoon olive oil to 4 ounces of Roasted-Garlic Hummus. Whip until smooth. Toss with cut romaine lettuce. Add toasted pita croutons (toast a pita loaf and cut into quarter-inch squares).

Fettuccini Alfredo With Hummus -- Cook fettuccini al dente and drain. Empty 1 cup of Roasted-Garlic Hummus in a saucepan. Add 4 tablespoons of water and heat gently. Toss with the fettuccini. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve.

Mediterranean Hummus Meza Plate -- Spread your favorite hummus around a shallow round plate, sprinkle with paprika and drizzle with a little olive oil in the center. Serve with olives, red-onion slices, tomato slices and warm pita.
