Hold That Bagel -- What's Wrong With This Picture?

Where are the Jews?

When this Sunday night's Golden Globes airs on NBC, amid the clinking and the clatter, will there be no clique of Jewish-themed films to celebrate?

Hold that bagel -- what's wrong with this picture? Where are The Social Networks, The Readers, films that if not outwardly, at least inwardly are invested in Jewish jingoism that has made hosts drool with drop-dead insults.

What will Ricky Gervais do for humor?

Wait, pull up the couch; there is one selection with a scintilla of sensitivity: A Dangerous Method, a psychological shoot-out between Freud -- who was Jewish -- and Jung, over the affections of their patient Sabina Spielrein. Viggo Mortensen nailed a nod for his role as Freud.

Well, that will incur our interest for at least an hour -- or 50 minutes.

Of course there was The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (nominee Rooney Mara) with its Swedish aristocratic family's imbroglio in Nazi business. But, really, it's not called The Nazi With the Dragon Tattoo; the real star is the Girl, not the SS.

And you know how Jews feel about tattoos.

Other than that ... did filmmakers take a year off? (The TV categories for the Globes is Jewishly vacant, too.) And in the foreign-language selections, no evidence of Israeli films or Holocaust subjects? Forget Gervais; what will Billy Crystal cut to shreds come Oscar time?

But, wait. Scanning the list of categories and honors for this Sunday, there is an item of Jewish interest after all -- in the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

Finally a Jew to point to -- Morgan Freeman.

What's that?

Oh.

Never mind.
