Judith Bernstein-Baker plans on taking public transportation when she arrives in Berlin for a study tour on immigration later this month among legal scholars, journalists and academics.

The executive director of HIAS Pennsylvania said she would like to get a feel for the lively European city and that’s easier to do with public transportation than via a taxi.

Bernstein-Baker will visit with a delegation comprised of people from 16 different states. American Council on Germany is sponsoring the trip, which includes stops at the Jewish Museum Berlin and meetings with members of the German Parliament, immigration officials and representatives of non-governmental organizations.

Bernstein-Baker, who is the only person attending from Philadelphia, said she looks forward to learning about the relationship between politics and immigration policy in Germany. This will be her first trip to Germany.

"I am thrilled to be selected to attend this tour at a time when immigration policy has risen to the top of the U.S. federal legislative agenda,” she said. “And is the subject of much discussion in Europe as well.”
