For thousands of years henna (a temporary stain for the skin that typically lasts from a few days to a few weeks) has been used to decorate and heal the body. It is mentioned in the Bible and has been used especially by Sephardic Jews. Recently henna has been used to celebrate not only weddings, but other life-cycle events like the Bat and Bar Mitzvah and pregnancy. Henna is a great way of connecting and "playing" with family and friends. It has been called a good luck charm - a "blessing" upon the skin, that can be enjoyed by women and men alike.
