Health Care Network Hears of Advances in Fetal Surgery
Dr. N. Scott Adzick, surgeon-in-chief of the Department of Surgery and chief, general, of Thoracic and Fetal Surgery at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), discussed his breakthroughs in fetal surgery for spina bifida during the opening event of Federation's Health Care Affinity Network.
The Oct. 24 program at CHOP focused on the pioneering work that Adzick and his surgical team are doing to diagnose and treat a wide range of illnesses in utero, to significantly enhance the quality of life.
The surgeon also serves as director of the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment at CHOP, one of only a handful of medical facilities in the world where open-fetal surgery is performed. His lecture was one of several educational and social-action programs scheduled for the affinity network in 2011-2012.
This new Federation group, which is committed to the mandate of "rofeh cholim," healing those who are ill, is open to medical professionals, medical technology firms, insurance and pharmaceutical companies, consultants to the medical industry and other professionals who serve this broad and growing economic sector.
On April 4, 2012, the health care affinity network will welcome Chicago-based Jeffrey S. Aronin, chairman and chief executive officer of Paragon Pharmaceuticals, a global development and biopharmaceutical investment firm.
