More than 100 Jews from 19 communities across the United States headed to Israel for a weeklong trip organized by Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) that focused on inclusion of the LGBT community.

As for an ongoing campaign to “Save the Consulate,” led by Lou Balcher, who served as the consul’s director of academic affairs under three consul generals from 2004 to 2013, the consensus seems to be that it’s a lost cause.

One of Israel’s efforts toward making its water usage more efficient and environmentally sustainable came to fruition in 2005 with the construction of the Ashkelon Desalination Plant on the Mediterranean coast. There are now four plants with a fifth scheduled to open later this year at Ashdod.
