Dozens of Jewish organizations and synagogues around the Philadelphia area have joined the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia in co-sponsoring Wednesday’s “Stand With Israel” solidarity rally.

The rally will take place at 4:30 p.m. at LOVE Park in Center City at the corner of 16th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard.

Its aim is to show support for the Jewish homeland, where over 1,200 have been fired into Israel and at least 27 Israeli Defense Forces soldiers have been killed during several days of intense fighting in the Gaza Strip.

The keynote speaker is Edward Turzanski, co-chair of the Foreign Policy Research Institute’s Center for the Study of Terrorism and a political science professor at La Salle University. Several elected officials are also slated to be in attendance, including state Sen. Anthony Williams, Josh Shapiro, chairman of the Montgomery County Commission and Risa Vetri Ferman, Montgomery County’s district attorney.

Also slated to address the rally is Elad Strohmayer, Israel’s deputy consul general to the mid-Atlantic region, and Federation leaders.

The Federation’s website noted that there have been more than 50 anti-Israeli rallies across the country, some of which were marred by aggressive verbal altercations.

Though there will be a strong police presence at the rally, the Federation published a list of security precautions such as requesting rally attendees to be on extra alert for extreme or hostile behavior, to not engage with anti-Israel protesters and to arrive at and leave the rally in pairs or groups.
