Casey, Toomey Sponsor Resolution Supporting Israel
Pennsylvania Sens. Pat Toomey and Bob Casey co-sponsored a resolution Thursday reaffirming U.S. support for Israel and condemning the recent rocket fire from Gaza.
The resolution received bipartisan support and was authored by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).
The resolution reaffirms the Senate's support for Israel’s right to defend its citizens; condemns the unprovoked rocket fire at Israel; calls on Hamas to immediately end all attacks against Israel and calls on Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to dissolve the unity governing arrangement with Hamas.
"Hamas must immediately cease the unprovoked rocket attacks that terrorize the Israeli people, and the Palestinian Authority should condemn these attacks,” Casey said in a news release. “Through its incitement of violence, Hamas has again shown its true colors: It is a terrorist organization and has no intentions of working toward peace in the region."
The House unanimously passed a resolution with similiar language in support of Israel. Rep. Robert Brady, a Democrat from Philadelphia, was a co-sponsor of the resolution.
